Video Editing Statistics 2026: 40 Original Data Points

Video editing statistics are almost always borrowed. Nearly every figure published on this subject traces back to the same handful of vendor surveys, recycled from article to article until the original source is three links away. Every number on this page is ours, measured on our own data, and free to cite with attribution.

There are two datasets behind it. The first is a keyword study of 2,417 terms pulled from DataForSEO's Google Ads endpoint, US only. The second is Google Search Console for pixel8production.com across 327 published articles. Where a figure comes from a specific window, we say so.

We are a video editing agency, so we had a commercial reason to hope some of these numbers were larger. They are not, and we published them anyway.

Video editing statistics: the headline numbers

 1. Only 2.5% of US video search demand is someone trying to hire an editor. That is a share of monthly search volume, across 368 buyer-intent keywords found in 2,417 analysed.
 2. 58,020 US searches a month exist across every buyer-intent video editing keyword combined.
 3. 82.3% of the category is software and DIY tools, at 1,903,350 monthly searches across 1,017 keywords.
 4. 15.2% is shooting and production, at 350,690 monthly searches across 173 keywords.
 5. The classified set represents 2,312,060 monthly searches in total.
 6. Of 2,417 keywords, 1,558 classified cleanly into software, production or hiring. The remaining 859 were ambiguous or brand-specific and were excluded rather than forced into a bucket.
 7. The largest single buyer-intent term is "video production service" and its plural at 6,600 searches a month, and both imply filming.
 8. "Video editing service" and its plural draw 2,400 searches a month. That is the largest term a company that does not film can serve directly.
 9. "Hire a video editor" draws 1,600 searches a month.
 10. One competitor's two largest ranking terms were "video editing programs" at 301,000 a month and "canva video editor" at 40,500, neither of which is a buyer for any service.

Video editing statistics on market size and demand

The gap between the category and the addressable market is the single most useful number here, because it changes what a reasonable growth plan looks like.

 1. A specialist editing business faces a realistic search ceiling of roughly 58,000 monthly US searches. Ranking first for every term in the set would still produce a modest number of visitors before click-through and conversion.
 2. The head terms account for a few thousand searches a month. The rest of the 58,020 is a long tail of very small terms.
 3. Production demand is six times editing demand. 350,690 against 58,020.
 4. Software demand is 33 times editing demand. 1,903,350 against 58,020.
 5. Keyword volume data proved unreliable at the tail. One of our terms reports 10 to 20 searches a month in Google Ads and produced 1,027 real impressions in Search Console over 90 days.
 6. "B2B video marketing statistics" returns 10 US searches a month, and the page targeting it is the most linked page on our site. Search volume and citation value are not the same thing.

Video editing statistics on content performance

These come from Search Console for 10 June to 8 September 2026, covering 327 published articles.

 1. 327 articles produced 202 clicks in 90 days.
 2. 39,270 impressions across the same window.
 3. Site-wide click-through rate: 0.51%.
 4. Average position: 11.7.
 5. 333 pages earned at least one impression. Indexation is not the constraint.
 6. 139 pages rank in the top ten for at least one query.
 7. 69% of those top-ten pages earn under 50 impressions in 90 days.
 8. The median top-ten page earns 16 impressions in 90 days.
 9. 437 queries place us in the top ten. The median one earns 2 impressions.
 10. In our earlier August 2026 window, comparison pages targeting [brand] alternatives earned a median 152 impressions per page, against 6 for pages targeting a specific industry, a ratio of roughly 25 to 1.

Video editing statistics on rankings and clicks

 1. Positions 4 to 10 produced 11,244 impressions and 13 clicks. That is a click-through rate of 0.12%, where 2% to 6% would be normal.
 2. Positions 1 to 3 produced 701 impressions and 21 clicks, a 3.00% click-through rate. The top three still behave the way search is supposed to behave.
 3. Positions 11 to 20 produced 2,760 impressions and 7 clicks, 0.25%.
 4. Positions 21 and beyond produced 2,822 impressions and 1 click, 0.04%.
 5. 96% of our query-dimension impressions sit below position 3. The visibility is real and it converts to almost nothing.
 6. Ranking improvements did not produce click improvements. Our average position moved from 11.9 to 11.7 across two studies while click-through rate stayed flat at roughly 0.5%.

Video editing statistics on AI answers and zero-click search

This is the part that changed most between our two measurement windows, and it replicated rather than reversed.

 1. 153 question-shaped queries produced 1,660 impressions and zero clicks. Not a low click-through rate. Zero.
 2. In our previous window the same measurement returned 643 impressions and zero clicks. The finding held at two and a half times the scale.
 3. Question-shaped queries are now 9.5% of our query-dimension impressions and 0% of our clicks.
 4. Some of those queries sit at strong positions. The impression is real, the position is real, and the visit does not happen.
 5. A distinct pattern of very long, near-duplicate queries appears in our data, for example twenty variants of one statistics phrase, all at positions 7 to 9 and all at zero clicks. The length, the repetition and the complete absence of clicks are consistent with automated research rather than people.
 6. 874 impressions across 55 research-intent queries produced 4 clicks in 90 days.
 7. Those same research-intent queries correlate with the only backlinks our site has earned without asking. In every editorial citation we have reviewed, the referring page points at one statistics article out of 327. Directory listings aside, no other page on the site has earned one.
 8. One referring article credits a Pixel8 Production report that does not exist, which is strong evidence that the citation was generated without a person reading the page.

Method

Keyword volumes come from DataForSEO's Google Ads endpoint, US only, across seed expansion, related-keyword expansion and a crawl of a direct competitor's ranking keywords. Each keyword was classified by what the searcher plainly wants: software, filming, or hiring an editing service.

Performance figures come from Google Search Console for sc-domain:pixel8production.com. Site-level totals use unfiltered numbers. Query-level figures describe 17,527 of 39,270 impressions, because Search Console omits anonymised queries from the query dimension.

Two windows appear above. The keyword study was pulled on 6 August 2026. Performance data covers 10 June to 8 September 2026.

Limitations

This is one site's data in one niche, and the corpus was built by one team with particular habits. The keyword classification is our judgement rather than a standard, and a different analyst would sort some terms differently. Google's volume figures are estimates and are known to be imprecise at the tail, which statistic 15 demonstrates directly.

The AI-answer findings are inference, not observation. Search Console does not expose AI answer surfaces, so we are reading a pattern in click data rather than watching the mechanism. Statistic 37 in particular describes what the query strings look like, and the conclusion drawn from that is ours.

Using this data

The figures here correct things we previously believed and acted on, which is most of the reason we publish them. We built 49 pages targeting individual industries before measuring that they were the worst-performing class in our own corpus.

Anyone sizing a video editing business from the category's headline numbers is working from the wrong denominator. It is cheaper to learn that from someone else's data than from three hundred of your own articles. The full working is in our video editing market size study, and if you are choosing between delivery models rather than measuring markets, our comparison of a video editing subscription versus a freelancer covers where each one stops working.

Pixel8 Production is a video editing agency for B2B and SaaS teams. We do not film, and the production figures above describe a market we deliberately do not serve, which is why statistic 7 matters to us: the largest buyer-intent term in the whole set is one we deliberately do not chase.

If you are a company reading this rather than an analyst, the practical takeaway is narrower than the data. A small addressable market means the vendors serving it are easier to compare than the category's noise suggests, because most of what ranks is software marketing rather than service marketing. Our pricing is published for that reason, and you can see how we work alongside it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How big is the video editing services market?

About 58,020 US searches a month across 368 buyer-intent keywords, which is 2.5% of classified video-related search volume. The largest servable terms are "video editing service" at 2,400 a month and "hire a video editor" at 1,600.

Why do other sources report a much larger video editing market?

Because they count the whole category. Software and DIY tools account for 1,903,350 monthly searches, or 82.3% of the classified set. Those people are looking for a tool to use themselves, not a service to hire.

What percentage of video search is people looking for software?

82.3%, across 1,017 keywords. A further 15.2% is production and filming. Hiring an editing service is the remaining 2.5%.

Does ranking on page one produce traffic?

Frequently not. Across 139 pages ranking in the top ten for at least one query, 69% earn under 50 impressions in 90 days and the median earns 16. Ranking for a term nobody searches produces nothing.

What is the click-through rate at positions 4 to 10?

In our data, 0.12%. That is 11,244 impressions producing 13 clicks. Positions 1 to 3 produced 3.00% over the same window, so the drop-off below the top three is severe rather than gradual.

Do question-shaped queries convert to clicks?

In our data, never. 153 question-shaped queries produced 1,660 impressions and zero clicks, replicating an earlier measurement of 643 impressions and zero clicks. The answer is delivered on the results page and the visit does not follow.

What type of content performs best in this market?

Comparison content. Pages targeting `[brand] alternatives` earn a median 152 impressions per page, roughly 25 times what pages targeting a specific industry earn.

How much does a video editing service cost?

Freelance editing runs roughly $75 to $250 per finished video. A subscription service with a dedicated editor runs $2,000 to $3,200 a month for continuous output, and we charge $900 for a one-time trial before that. A staff editor costs $55,000 to $75,000 a year according to ZipRecruiter before equipment. Our video editing agency cost guide breaks the models down.

Can I cite these statistics?

Yes. Every figure on this page is free to use with attribution to Pixel8 Production and a link to this page. If you want a breakdown we have not published, or the segment definitions behind the classification, ask and we will share them.
