Post Production Software for B2B Teams: The Full Stack

Post production software is usually discussed as though it means one application, and for a solo editor it does. For a company publishing video regularly it means a stack: something to cut in, something to finish audio, something to collect feedback, and somewhere for files to live between all of them.

The part that breaks is almost never the editor. It is the review round, where five people leave comments in three different places and the wrong version goes live. That is why this comparison is organised by stage rather than by brand.

Every price below was checked against the vendor's own pricing page in September 2026.

The five stages of post production software

Edit. Where the cut happens. This is the only stage most roundups cover.

Colour and finishing. Grading, keying, clean-up. In a small team this is usually the same tool as the edit.

Audio. Levels, noise, music beds. The stage most often skipped, and the one viewers notice fastest when it is wrong.

Review and approval. Where stakeholders comment. This is where B2B timelines actually go, and it is a separate category of software with its own pricing.

Delivery and storage. Where masters live so someone can find last year's launch video without asking the person who made it.

Post production software by stage

Pixel8 Production, when the stack is not the problem

Listed first for transparency, since we publish this page: we are an editing service rather than software. A stack does not help if nobody has hours to run it. If someone does, the tools below are the ones worth knowing.

DaVinci Resolve, three stages in one application

Post Production Software for B2B Teams: The Full Stack image 2

The free version of DaVinci Resolve covers edit, colour and audio in a single application, finishing up to 60fps at Ultra HD 3840 x 2160. Its Fairlight page is a genuine audio post environment rather than a volume slider, and its colour tools are the industry reference.

Studio is $295 as a one-time purchase, adding the Neural Engine, 45 extra Resolve FX, noise reduction, Dolby Vision grading and support to 120fps.

For a small team, collapsing three stages into one tool removes the handoffs where files get lost. The cost is a learning curve steep enough to need a dedicated person, and hardware that can keep up: Resolve expects a real GPU and will stutter on an office laptop long before the edit gets complicated.

Adobe Premiere Pro, the compatibility standard

Premiere Pro is $22.99 a month as a single app on an annual plan, and Creative Cloud Pro with all apps is $69.99 a month.

The argument is not that it edits better than Resolve. It is that every freelancer, agency and contractor you might bring in can open the project. If your post production involves anyone outside the company, that compatibility is worth more than any single feature, and it is why agencies standardise on it even when they prefer something else.

All apps also brings After Effects for motion graphics, which for most B2B teams is the second most-used tool after the editor.

Frame.io, review built for video

Post Production Software for B2B Teams: The Full Stack image 4

Frame.io is the default review layer for video teams, and its free tier is usable rather than decorative: up to 2 members, 2GB of storage and up to 2 projects, including Camera to Cloud and transcription.

Pro is $15 a month and raises it to 5 members, 2TB of storage plus 2TB per additional member, unlimited projects, and custom-branded, passphrase-protected shares with link expiry. Team is $25 a month. Annual billing saves 13%.

Frame-accurate comments are the feature that matters. Feedback attached to a timecode removes the round of emails that begins "around the 40 second mark, I think".

The storage numbers are worth reading carefully. 2GB free sounds small because it is: a single 4K master will use most of it. The free tier is for trialling the review workflow, not for keeping a library.

Filestage, review for everything, not just video

Post Production Software for B2B Teams: The Full Stack image 5

Filestage handles video alongside documents, PDFs and design files, which suits marketing teams reviewing a campaign rather than a single cut. Its free plan covers 1 active project, 5 new files a month, 2 reviewer groups and 10 team members, with unlimited reviewers who need only an email address rather than an account.

Paid plans are a different order of cost: Starter is $199 a month and Business is $329, each including 10 seats with more added in bundles of 5.

The unlimited-reviewers-without-accounts model is the real distinction. If your approvals involve a client's legal team, nobody wants to create logins for three people who will comment once.

The pricing gap between the free plan and Starter is the largest in this comparison, and it reflects who buys it. Filestage is sold to teams whose approval process is the expensive part of their week, not to individuals.

Descript, when the edit is mostly dialogue

Descript edits video by editing the transcript, which is the fastest route through webinars, interviews and demo walkthroughs. Free covers 60 minutes of media a month and exports 720p with a watermark. Hobbyist is $16 a month, Creator $24, and Business $50 with team brand controls.

It is not a finishing tool, and it is not trying to be. It removes the slowest part of long-form dialogue editing and hands off to something else.

In a stack, that is the right way to use it: cut the transcript down to the version worth finishing, then take the result into Resolve or Premiere for colour, graphics and audio. Teams that try to do everything in Descript hit its ceiling quickly and blame the tool for a job it never claimed.

What the stack costs at each size

Team Stack Monthly
Solo DaVinci Resolve free + Frame.io free $0
Small, internal review Resolve Studio ($295 once) + Frame.io Pro $15 plus one-time $295
Agency or contractors involved Premiere single app + Frame.io Team $47.99
Marketing team, multi-format approvals Creative Cloud Pro + Filestage Starter $268.99

The jump between the third and fourth rows is where most teams flinch, and it is worth understanding what causes it. It is not editing capability. It is approvals across formats and stakeholders, which is a people problem that software prices accordingly.

The stage most teams under-tool

Audio is the one. Almost every B2B team buys an editor, adds a review tool when approvals get painful, and never gives audio a thought until someone says a video sounds cheap.

There is a reason it hides. Bad audio does not look like anything on a timeline, and the person editing usually hears the same file forty times and stops noticing. Viewers notice in the first three seconds, and the research consensus is that audiences tolerate rough visuals far better than rough sound.

The practical fix is unglamorous and free. Set consistent levels across the video, remove background hum, and duck the music under speech. Resolve's Fairlight page does all three in the free version. If you use Premiere, this is the gap that most often justifies the all-apps plan, since Audition comes with it.

The related habit worth building is listening to the export on laptop speakers and phone speakers rather than only in headphones, because that is where the video will actually be watched.

What we verified, and when

Every figure came from the vendor's own pricing page in September 2026. Avid appears on this SERP and is genuinely used in broadcast and film post, but we have not quoted its pricing because we did not verify it, and a number repeated from another roundup is not a number.

Choosing post production software without overbuying

  1. Who reviews the work? Internal only points to Frame.io. Clients and legal teams point to Filestage's no-account reviewers.
  2. Does anyone outside the company touch the project files? If yes, Premiere compatibility outweighs Resolve's capability.
  3. Is audio part of the job? Resolve includes real audio post free. Most other stacks bolt it on.
  4. How many formats go through approval? Video only is a narrow tool. Video plus decks plus PDFs is a different category and a bigger bill.
  5. Where do masters live afterwards? Whichever answer you pick, decide it before you need last year's file, not after.

When the stack is not the constraint

Every tool above assumes someone has the hours to run the process. Our research on the video editing market found the overwhelming majority of video-related search demand is people looking for software rather than help, which is the same reflex that produces a well-chosen stack nobody has time to use.

If you are earlier in the decision, our comparison of free editing software covers the edit stage on no budget, and our After Effects alternatives guide covers the motion graphics layer.

Pixel8 Production is a video editing agency for B2B and SaaS teams. We do not film. We edit footage you already have, running the post-production stack so your team does not have to, at $2,000 to $3,200 per month after a $900 one-time trial. Our pricing sets out what each plan covers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What software is used for video post production?

Most teams use an editor such as DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro, a review tool such as Frame.io or Filestage, and something for motion graphics like After Effects. Resolve is unusual in covering edit, colour and audio in one application.

What is the best free post production software?

DaVinci Resolve's free version, by a wide margin. It handles editing, colour grading and audio post up to Ultra HD at 60fps, with no watermark. Pair it with Frame.io's free tier for review at up to 2 members and 2 projects.

How much does Frame.io cost?

Free covers up to 2 members, 2GB of storage and 2 projects. Pro is $15 a month for up to 5 members with 2TB of storage, and Team is $25 a month. Annual billing saves 13%.

How much does Filestage cost?

The free plan covers 1 active project, 5 new files a month and 10 team members, with unlimited reviewers who do not need accounts. Starter is $199 a month and Business is $329, each including 10 seats.

Frame.io or Filestage?

Frame.io if you review video and want frame-accurate comments in a tool built for editors. Filestage if approvals span video, documents and design, or if reviewers outside your company should not have to create accounts.

Do I need separate audio software?

Not necessarily. DaVinci Resolve includes Fairlight, a full audio post environment, in the free version. Teams working in Premiere often add Audition through Creative Cloud, which is one reason the all-apps plan gets chosen.

What does a post production workflow actually look like?

Ingest and organise footage, cut the edit, finish colour and audio, send for review, collect feedback against timecode, apply revisions, then export masters and versions. The review loop is where most B2B timelines are lost, not the edit.

Is post production software worth it for a small marketing team?

The editor and a free review tier, yes. The expensive tiers usually buy approval workflow rather than production quality, so the honest test is whether your bottleneck is making the video or agreeing on it.
